Band Seated Twist
Also known as: Seated Band Rotation, Seated Band Trunk Rotation
CoreFunctional
Body Part: Abs
Description
Sit upright on a bench with a resistance band anchored to one side at chest height and hold the handle with both arms extended. Rotate your trunk away from the anchor while keeping your feet and pelvis still, then return slowly against the band’s pull to train trunk rotation.
How to Perform
- Sit upright on a bench with both feet firmly on the floor.
- Secure the band to your side at chest height and hold the handle in both hands with arms straight in front of you.
- Brace your abdominal muscles and keep your hips and legs still.
- Rotate your torso away from the anchor point, pulling the band across your body.
- Pause briefly at the end of the rotation without leaning back, rounding your lower back, or shrugging your shoulders.
- Return slowly and with control to the starting position, resisting the pull of the band.
- Complete all repetitions on one side, then turn around or move the anchor point and repeat on the other side.

Tips
- Position the bench so the anchor is beside you and level with your chest when seated.
- Let your head follow your trunk naturally rather than turning the neck first.
- Exhale as you rotate against the band resistance, then return slowly and with control as you inhale.
- Choose a resistance that lets you finish every repetition with the same rotation range.
- Perform the same number of repetitions on both sides to train your trunk evenly.
Common Mistakes
- Pulling mostly with the arms instead of rotating through the torso.
- Letting the hips shift or lift off the seat during the twist.
- Rounding the lower back instead of sitting tall.
- Shrugging the shoulders toward the ears while holding the band.
- Twisting too far and forcing the lower back past a controlled range.
- Allowing the knees or feet to turn with the torso instead of keeping the lower body stable.
