Help
The most common questions about the SmartWorkout app, each with a short answer up front and the menu path wherever you need to tap something. Questions about training itself, like sets, RIR and progression, are covered with the free workout plans.
Subscription and payments
- What's free, and what do Pro and Premium add?For free, you can log unlimited workouts and get unlimited templates, all ready-made plans, your full history, charts, records and data export, with no ads. Pro adds things like photos and videos in your log, exercise swaps and analysis of past weeks. Premium includes everything in Pro, plus suggestions for your next workout and volume zones.
- How progression suggestions work (Premium)Progression suggestions are a SmartWorkout Premium feature: in your next workout from a template or plan, they tell you whether to add a rep, add weight or stay at your current target. They look at weight, reps, RIR and the exercise's history, and with a rep range such as 6-8, they add reps first and weight second.
- Premium isn't working after purchase. How do I restore it?Open Profile › Settings › Help and, under "Troubleshooting", choose "Restore Purchases". The app checks your store purchases and turns on the subscription for the account you're signed in to.
- How do I cancel my subscription? You cancel in the store where you bought the subscription: on iPhone, in the system Settings under Subscriptions; on Android, in the Play Store under "Payments & subscriptions". After you cancel, Premium keeps working until the end of the period you paid for.
AI credits
- What are AI credits, and why do I need them with a subscription?AI credits pay for features that use AI models, such as a workout plan built by AI. We pay the provider every time a model is used, so AI is billed separately. Logging workouts, your own plans and statistics don't use any credits.
- How many AI credits do I get, and when do they renew? You get 50 AI credits to start, once per account and once per phone. Pro gives you 1000 and Premium 2000 credits a month. The monthly allowance renews on the 1st of each month and doesn't roll over, while starter credits and credits from packs don't expire.
- AI workout plan: quick start or coach-style interviewThere are two ways to get an AI plan: the quick start takes about 10 questions and 2 minutes, and the coach-style interview has 7 sections, takes about 8 minutes and gives the most accurate plan. Either way, you see the plan before you save it, and when you first open the app, before you create an account.
- How much does an AI plan cost, and how do the models differ?A plan costs 10 credits with the Luna model, 200 with Sol and 1000 with Astra. Luna is the basic model, Sol is the recommended one and Astra is the best. If generation fails, no credits are taken.
Account and data
- How do I sign in? Can I do it without Google or Apple? You sign in with Apple (iPhone only) or with Google (iPhone and Android). You can also start without signing in, on a guest account. There's no sign-in with email and password.
- My workout history disappeared after signing out. How do I get it back? Most often, you've signed in to a different account. Sign in with the same Apple or Google account as before and wait a moment for your history to download. If it was a guest account, the data was only on that phone and can't be recovered after signing out or reinstalling the app.
- How do I move my data to a new phone?Install SmartWorkout on your new phone and sign in with the same Apple or Google account. Your workouts, plans, templates, measurements and AI credits download automatically. If you're switching systems, cancel your subscription in the old store and buy it again on the new phone.
- Training with a coach in SmartWorkoutIn SmartWorkout, your coach works with you in the same app: they assign you plans, see your workout log and chat with you. Pick a coach from the catalog (Profile › Train with a Coach) or accept an invitation from your own coach. You don't need a subscription for this.
Workout logging
- Set types and exercise groups in SmartWorkoutSmartWorkout is a free app where you mark each set as a warm-up, working set or drop set, and link exercises into a superset or another group you do in rotation. Log myo-reps, rest-pause and cluster sets as separate working sets with a short rest.
- RIR, RPE and tempo in the SmartWorkout logSmartWorkout is a free app where you log RIR or RPE for every set and tempo for every exercise. Pick your scale in Profile › Settings › Workout Settings, then enter RIR or RPE on the keyboard along with your reps. Tempo is four characters, like 3010, shared by all sets of the exercise.
- How SmartWorkout counts volume for dumbbell exercisesSet volume (tonnage) is weight times reps. For exercises with two dumbbells and for single-arm or single-leg exercises, you log one side (the weight of one dumbbell and the reps of one arm or leg), and SmartWorkout counts the volume twice. Weight, estimated 1RM, reps and sets are not doubled.
Troubleshooting
Watches and health apps
- Does SmartWorkout work on Apple Watch?Yes. The Apple Watch app installs along with the iPhone app and needs watchOS 10 or later. On the watch, you start a workout from a plan, a template or from scratch, log sets with the Digital Crown and feel a tap on your wrist when your rest ends.
- Does SmartWorkout work on Wear OS and Galaxy Watch?Yes. The app works on watches with Wear OS 4 or later, such as Galaxy Watch4 and newer, together with the app on your Android phone. You can start a workout on it, log sets and get an alert when your rest ends.
- Does SmartWorkout work with Garmin? No. SmartWorkout doesn't currently have an app for Garmin watches or sync workouts with Garmin Connect. Our watch apps are for Apple Watch and Wear OS.
- Does SmartWorkout connect to Apple Health, Health Connect or Samsung Health? On iPhone, yes: SmartWorkout saves every strength workout to Apple Health, along with weight and body fat percentage from your measurements. On Android, Health Connect, Google Fit and Samsung Health aren't supported yet.
Moving your data
- How do I move my workouts from Hevy, Strong or Excel? When you first open the app, it asks "Trained in another app?". Paste up to 10 recent workouts there as text, and AI adds them to your history. This works once per account. You can import your own workout plan as text at any time.
- Import a plan from a chat, your notes or your coachIn SmartWorkout, you paste a plan as plain text: a ChatGPT answer, a note, a plan from your coach or the contents of a CSV file, up to 100,000 characters. AI brings over the days, exercises, sets, rest and tempo and matches the exercises to the library, then the app opens a preview you can edit. Importing costs 10 AI credits.
- Plan builder: blocks, weeks and mesocyclesIn the SmartWorkout plan builder, you create your own plan for free: a plan is split into blocks, a block into weeks and a week into workouts. The mesocycle generator spreads one week of workouts over 2 to 12 weeks, and one load indicator covers the whole plan: %1RM, RPE or RIR. You set changes between weeks yourself.
