Body Part: Triceps

Description

The ring tuck planche is a straight-arm hold with the knees drawn toward the chest and the feet off the floor. Leaning the shoulders beyond the hands transfers the load onto the arms while the shoulders, abdomen and hips keep the body balanced over the rings.

How to Perform

  1. Set the rings to a low height, around hip level or lower, and ensure the straps are even and securely anchored.
  2. Start in vertical straight-arm support with the rings close to your hips and your feet off the floor.
  3. Lean your shoulders forward in front of your hands while keeping your elbows fully locked and your arms straight.
  4. Draw the knees tightly toward your chest while keeping the feet suspended.
  5. Round your upper back slightly, brace your abdominals, and keep your hips lifted until your body is balanced in the tuck position.
  6. Hold the position without bending your elbows or allowing the shoulders to shrug toward your ears.
  7. Bring the shoulders back over the hands and lower the legs to return to vertical ring support, keeping the feet off the floor.

What Muscles Work

Secondary Muscles:

Tips

  • Set the rings low enough to step down comfortably.
  • Match the strap lengths before taking support.
  • Breathe in short, steady breaths during the hold.
  • Practice a stable ring support before adding the forward lean.
  • Use short holds and reset fully between attempts.

Common Mistakes

  • Letting the shoulders collapse instead of actively pressing down into the rings.
  • Bending the elbows instead of holding straight-arm support.
  • Allowing the rings to drift wide or rotate uncontrollably
  • Losing the hollow-body position and arching the lower back
  • Letting the hips drop below shoulder height
  • Relying on momentum to enter the hold instead of establishing controlled tension
