Body Part: Shoulders
Description
A strongman lift in which you clean a log from the floor to your chest and drive it overhead. From the chest you dip, drive the log up and bend your knees again to get under it, then stand up with your arms locked. Lower it to the chest, then to the thighs and the floor.
How to Perform
- Stand close to the log with your feet about shoulder-width apart. Squat down and take the handles with a neutral grip.
- Brace your core, keep your back flat and drive through your legs to lift the log to your thighs.
- Keep the log tight to your body and roll it up onto your upper chest, driving your elbows high.
- Stand tall with the log resting on your chest and your elbows up.
- Dip by bending your knees, then drive hard with your legs to send the log upward.
- Bend your knees again to get under the log and catch it on straight arms.
- Stand up with your elbows locked and the log over your midfoot.
- Lower the log to your chest, then to your thighs and back to the floor under control.

Tips

- Squeeze the handles hard and keep your wrists straight.
- Keep the first dip short and straight down, with your torso upright and heels on the floor.
- Push your head through between your arms at lockout.
- Reset your grip and breath before every clean.
Common Mistakes
- Rounding the lower back when lifting the log off the floor
- Pulling the log up with the arms instead of driving with the legs
- Letting the log drift away from the body during the clean
- Holding the log on the chest with the elbows low
- Pressing the log out slowly with the arms instead of driving it with the legs
- Leaning back with the ribs flared at lockout
- Letting the log drift forward of the midfoot overhead
- Dropping the log from overhead instead of lowering it in stages
